If you’re thinking of studying engineering or IT after Year 12, you’re in luck. Applications are now open for UTS’ programs and scholarships, and the Faculty of Engineering and IT are offering some brilliant opportunities.
There are so many good reasons to apply for a scholarship or similar opportunity. They can help you with mentorship opportunities, financial support, and to build your industry experience before you even graduate from uni.
Just ask Dylan Coyne, a previous Bachelor of IT Co-op scholarship student who’s now the co-founder of health tech startup, Updoc.
From scholarship student to co-founder
Dylan says the Bachelor of IT Co-op program was one of the most pivotal experiences of his life and one that allowed him to really live IT through hands-on experiences.
“I really learnt a lot through the program,” he explains. “I wasn’t seen as just an intern or student, but as a functioning member of the team. It’s given me great skills and experience whilst working on classes and learning about how technology can be applied in the real world.”
It’s something that he’s carried with him into founding Updoc. “[The program] allowed me to have the confidence and experience to want to branch out and start my own thing,” he explains. “I’d already worked on real projects and seen how technology can solve meaningful challenges.”
And now? At Updoc, Dylan hires students from the same program that helped launch his very own tech career!
“Without the program, my career trajectory would have been very different,” he says. “Supporting students is a way to give others the same opportunity.”

Which program or scholarship is right for you?
Women in Engineering and IT: supports female students starting studies in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at UTS. This scholarship offers two pathways – one focuses on industry experience, while the other focuses on supporting studies.
Bachelor of IT Co-op Scholarship: designed for students who want to combine academic study with real industry experience. They’ll complete an IT degree alongside structured industry placements, building practical skills and professional connections throughout their studies.
IDeA Cadetship (for Cybersecurity and Computer Science students): available to cybersecurity and computer science students, this cadetship allows them to study and work at the same time with a paid industry role built into the degree.

- Industry Degree Academy (IDeA) Cadetship Open from 1 June to 13 September 2026.
