Kick off a career in tech with this sweet scholarship

If you want to change the world with tech, apply for the Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship

If travel and inspiring good in the world of tech are on your dream career checklist, you’ll know both are pretty pricey.

We’ve got just the thing that could help take away the cost pressure and see you learning from some of the best tech experts on an all-expenses paid trip to Singapore!

Designed for recent high-school graduates, the Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship is open now and includes up to $15,000 to put towards an undergrad degree or other course, or pay for living expenses.

On top of that, there’s another $5,000 to cover a week-long Disruptive Leaders Program in Singapore where you’ll meet renowned tech experts and skill up on the communication and leadership front.

And this scholarship is not just about the money — you’ll also get access to priceless internships, mentoring and networking experiences, and lifelong membership of the W100 Alumni Network, a group of driven and diverse people there to help you with the connections you need for a rewarding tech career. After all, it’s not just about what you know, but who you know in tech.

Meet previous tech scholarship recipients

Previous Westpac scholarship winners have gone on to study a variety of STEM courses, working in everything from software development to cyber security.

Tech scholarship recipient Kanu Agarwal recently featured in the Maths + Data edition of Careers with STEM, talking about her gig as an associate data scientist at Westpac.

“Everyone tells you that if you’re interested in maths and science, you should study engineering,” Kanu says. “I wanted to study something a bit broader.”

Kanu decided on a double degree in maths and computer science at QUT in Brisbane and hasn’t looked back.

Kanu never thought she’d end up working in finance, but as a Westpac Young Technologists Scholar she knew a lot about the culture there. She also knew she wanted to focus on data, and Westpac’s graduate program was one of the few with a dedicated data stream.

“I’m a big believer in just doing what you want to do,” she says. “If you’re interested in something, just study it. Everything will work itself out later.”

2017 Westpac Young Technologist Kanu Agarwal studied a double degree in maths and computer science at QUT. She now works as an Associate Data Scientist at Westpac and is driven to encourage more women and girls to pursue careers in STEM.
