Meet a former recipient

Lena Wang is a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Google – meaning she helps keep things running quickly and smoothly – working behind the scenes to efficiently and automatically prevent or fix any tech outages.

“I loved hearing about some of the great initiatives started by these scholars, particularly from outside Australia, as it gave me a valuable perspective into how systemic oppressions manifest in different contexts.” Lena Wang, Site Reliability Engineer, Google

In 2018, she applied for and received Google’s Women Techmakers Scholarship (since renamed the Generation Google Scholarship).

“Scholarships are open once a year and recipients are given the opportunity to attend a retreat where they get to meet and collaborate with other scholars who are passionate about tackling issues facing minority groups in STEM,” Lena explains.

“I loved hearing about some of the great initiatives started by these scholars, particularly from outside Australia, as it gave me a valuable perspective into how systemic oppressions manifest in different contexts.”

Since starting work at Google, Lena has joined the company’s scholarship team to contribute to this initiative, “which has been incredible”, she says.
