Find out how these role models launched their careers in the space industry
To celebrate World Space Week kicking off 4 October, we’re taking a look at some of awesome people we have interviewed and how they got their start in the space industry.
From looking for mining in space to aerospace engineering, these STEM professionals are doing some seriously cool work!
Check out their stories below:

Dr Matt Shaw – Astrometallurgist
Matt is an astrometallurgist, a field that mixes science and engineering. “It involves turning space rocks into useful resources,” he explains.
Matt’s career has taken him to extreme environments, including the Australian desert and Canadian Arctic.
“Considering the differences in how you operate in a scorching desert compared to the freezing Arctic, I began thinking about even more extreme environments, like deep sea and space,” Matt says.
Georgia Dallimore – Aerospace Engineer and Science Communicator
“I was in Year 11 when I heard the Australian Space Agency headquarters would be established in my hometown of Adelaide,” says Georgia.
This fiercely reignited my passion for all things space, and with the advice from my teachers, knew exactly that aerospace engineering is what I should pursue.
