Get ready for a herb-a-listic career

Shape a naturally purpose-driven future with naturopathy

If you’re passionate about health, the environment, and helping others, naturopathy could be your dream career. With a projected job growth of 27.9% over the next five years, it’s one of Australia’s fastest-growing health fields.

Naturopaths use herbs, nutrition and lifestyle therapies to support people’s health and wellbeing. They often work alongside doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals to offer holistic, natural treatments for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

The Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) at Torrens University gives you the best of both worlds – a deep understanding of how the body works and how natural remedies can help restore balance. You’ll learn to assess clients holistically, use evidence-based research to guide your decisions, and apply herbal, nutritional and lifestyle medicine to promote healing.

This isn’t a sit-back-and-listen degree – it’s packed with hands-on learning. You’ll get real clinical experience at the Practice Wellbeing Centre, Torrens University’s custom-built student clinic, where you’ll work with clients under the supervision of experienced naturopaths. You’ll also dive into practical skills like herbal manufacturing, learning how to create natural remedies from scratch.

By the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to start your own practice or join a health team – confident, skilled, and ready to help people live healthier, more natural lives.

Creating therapeutic tea blends

Misha Moraan is a successful Torrens University alumna (back when it was known as the Southern School of Natural Therapies). She’s turned her passion for herbal medicine into a thriving business – Heart Therapeutics, where she has sold her herbal tea blends that she’s spent years formulating and curating, which not only provide medicinal benefits but taste great.

“Herbal medicine was my strong point in my degree. I’ve applied those principles, knowledge and experience in my formulations. One of my teas that is for anxiety, sleep, and stress, was actually a formulation of a liquid extract that I used to use in clinical practice.”

Misha’s career journey hasn’t always followed a straight path. Beyond clinical practice, she also worked in the organics industry, ran organic farms, and even became a qualified chef after graduation – all driven by the principle that “food is medicine.”

If you’re interested in a career in naturopathy, Misha recommends considering Torrens University. “If you were to graduate now, I believe that Torrens is setting up naturopaths to a bigger world of business and direction.”
