Top 10 graduate employers in STEM

TopGraduateEmployers.com has released their annual list of Australia’s Top 75 Graduate Employers for 2024 as voted by Graduates. So, how can you use this to your advantage? We’ve done the hard yards for you, sussing out the top 10 graduate employers in STEM industries so you can put your degree to good use and love your work.

Check out the full list to view all the graduate reviews. The list is split into groups by the size of the graduate program, and grads rate their employer on around 31 different categories including:

1. Atlassian

Technology

Atlassian is the front-runner of the large graduate employers as voted by graduates. Its collaboration tools are used by companies around the world, and it’s known for being flexible on where employees work.

Location: Sydney, New Zealand, distributed

Degrees: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Design, Information Systems, Data Analytics, IT.

2. Capgemini

Technology consulting

As a tech consulting firm, Capgemini works with big clients to help them adopt new tech and improve customer experiences with technology. It tops the list of graduate employers hiring between 21 and 70 graduates a year. Graduates rate the firm on career progression opportunities and its friendly and supportive environment.

Location: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Hobart and New Zealand

Degrees: All STEM degrees

3. Pilbara Minerals

Mining

Topping the list of employers with smaller graduate programs (intake less than 20), Pilbara Minerals is a lithium mining company hiring engineers in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. It’s employees typically fly in and out for work.

Location: Pilbara region, WA

Degrees: Mining, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering. Geology

4. NAB

Financial services

As a bank that serves both retail and business customers, NAB recruits across a broad range of areas, offering a rotational program so grads can be exposed to a variety of its divisions.

Location: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth

Degrees: Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Economics, Finance, IT.

5. Transgrid

Electricity utility

Transgrid owns and runs the transmission grid in NSW and ACT and employs graduates in Engineering, Construction and Project Management, Finance, Marketing, IT, Human Resources, Legal, Economics, Safety, and Environment.

Location: Sydney and Newcastle

Degrees: All STEM degrees

6. BDO

Professional services

BDO provides specialist accounting, audit, advisory and consulting services to clients, and has a network that extends to more than 167 countries. it has an open door policy which allows grads to build relationships with Partners.

Location: Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney

Degrees:  Accounting, Business, Cyber Security, Finance

7. SEEK

Technology

As a platform millions of job seekers go to, SEEK has consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the AFR BOSS Best Place to Work Awards. It hires graduates in roles including Strategy Analyst, Product Manager, Commercial Analyst or AI specialist.

Locations: Melbourne.

Degrees: Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Engineering.

8. QBE Insurance

Insurance

As a large insurer, QBE’s graduate program streams typically include Finance, Actuarial, Risk, Technology, Data Analytics, Insurance Underwriting, and Business Transformation. Graduates say they enjoy the inclusive culture.

9. RSM

Professional services

RSM is a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms, working in the accountancy, business consulting and risk management areas.

Locations: All Australian cities, and some regional areas.

Degrees: All STEM degrees.

10. Sydney Water

Water utility

Sydney Water is Australia’s largest water and wastewater service provider, with over five million customers. Graduates say they feel supported by the team they get to work with.

Locations: Sydney.

Degrees: Engineering, Science, Data Analytics, IT, Commerce.
