3 epic STEM events happening next month

STEM events

There are so many awesome STEM events happening over summer. Load up on pathway ideas and career inspiration IRL and online

Is it just us or is this year shaping up to be one of the best yet for STEM events and webinars? With loads of in-person events, virtual tours, webcasts, talks, hackathons, citizen science opportunities and competitions it’s going to be great year to celebrate all things STEM.

Here, we share three of the STEM events we have in our calendars this February.

Explore how you can combine a science degree with your ‘X’, which is your passion, another area or a big goal.

1. QUT’s STEM + X webinar

Science is typically seen as all lab coats and science teams working in isolation. But the truth is, science is a really broad area, and people who do science degrees can work in government, in business, with our oceans – even in space! Often without a lab in sight.

Explore how you can combine a science degree with your passion, another field or a world changing goal (we call this your “X’) by using Careers with STEM’s winning formula – STEM + X (where STEM = science, technology, engineering and maths, and X is up to you!).

Brought to you with the support of QUT, this webinar unlocks the next level potential of a science degree through combining science skills with your ‘X’ – to help students discover the careers of tomorrow and create change in our world today.

You’ll hear from real-life scientists and all about their fascinating study and career paths, with opportunities to ask questions.

When: 12pm AEDT, 22 February 2023

2. The Quantum Careers Fair

Considering a future-focussed career in quantum science and technology? This event is for you!

The CSIRO recently updated its projections for Australia’s quantum technology industry. The upshot? Loads of future career potential.

According to the latest figures, by 2045 Australia’s quantum technology sector will have reached $6 billion and generated 19,400 jobs.

But what will those jobs look like, and who will they be for?

To find out, put the upcoming Quantum Australia Careers Fair on 23 February 2023 into your calendar.

Hosted by the Sydney Quantum Academy, this event will connect potential employers with emerging talent, researchers and students (that’s you!) – whether you’re still in high school, currently studying at grad level at uni or in VET or have recently graduated. It’s free and you can join in person or online – bonus!  In-person tickets are selling fast but there’s plenty of space to join online!

If you’re seriously interested in a cutting-edge, future-focused career in this exciting emerging field, it’s an event you shouldn’t miss.

When: 21-23 February 2023

Register here.

3. STEMfest

STEMfest is bringing together leading experts to discuss why diversity in STEM – and in the workforce – matters

Are you an educator or STEM professional keen to shift the dial on diversity in your workplace? If you’re looking for inspiring and inclusive keynotes and deep dives on all things STEM, STEMfest is where it’s at.

The three-day event brings together professionals representing groups we don’t often hear from in this space – women, LGBTQIA+ community, young people, people with disabilities, CALD people, ESL, neurodiversity and more

Learn how to meaningful drive workforce change in gender and wider workforce equity through inspiring talks, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities.

Discuss why diversity matters and take away innovative strategies, methods and techniques for improving diversity, equity, and inclusion within your team.
